Under The Summer Rain, I Burnt Away

I'm going to let you all in on a little secret. It doesn't rain in Seattle nearly as much as people think. Sure, we've got a lot of overcast days, especially in the winter. But the actual rain that we get tends to be this misty, light rain. There are very rare occasions where it actually pours. Our annual rainfall is less than that of NYC, though I think we probably have more cloudy/overcast days. It's just that the rain takes much longer to accumulate when it's all misty and light.

Now, that being said, it's hasn't rained here in quite some time. In fact I can't actually remember the last time we had a good rain-filled day. One of the things I love about living here is the cloudy/overcast/rainy days. It makes the sunny, bright days seem so much better. I prefer the occasional sunny day in between a bunch of cloudy/rainy ones. Most people think that I was born here, due to my love of the weather. I actually get cranky and agitated if it hasn't rained in awhile.

Lately, it's been seeming like it's going to rain. The mornings have been rather grey and overcast, with a heavy marine layer. Which unfortunately ends up burning off by mid afternoon without a drop of rain to be had. It's really starting to get to me. On the bright side, so far this week it's been significantly cooler, although by the weekend it'll be back up into the 80s.

I think the last time I experienced rain, it was when Shawn and I were in Portland. We'd gone just out of town to this outlet mall to do some shopping and it just started pouring. Which seems like it would be nice, however it was about 95 degrees and the rain was so hot it ended up being even more humid and gross. Very unpleasant.

It doesn't look like we'll be getting any rain until the end of the month. Probably during Bumbershoot, which wouldn't surprise me as we've got plans to see Great Big Sea at an outdoor amphitheatre that Sunday.
